Sharing the Gift - Dec. 16-20

Merry Christmas everyone! What a wonderful time for us to be reading the gospel of Matthew. I am reminded of how blessed we are today to have God’s word so available to us. We’ve got multiple translations, commentaries, audio, e-versions, study bibles and every paper version you can think of. What a gift, what an absolute treasure it is for us Christians. Speaking of gifts, let’s look at the scripture for this week.

Then Jesus came near and said to them, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." - Matthew 28:18-20

If you’ve been saved by Jesus, you’ve been given the best gift that could ever be given. We didn’t deserve it, we couldn’t earn it, but in his mercy he saved us and he gave us the Holy Spirit to help us become more like him.

Now if you were given a Ferrari for Christmas, wouldn’t you tell someone? It would be exciting, amazing, for most of us it would be unbelievable. Why then do we not tell someone about the gift that was given to us that far far far surpasses the value of some fancy car?

This is a great time of year for us to be obedient to this command of Jesus. People everywhere are already singing about the fact that Jesus came to save us, even if they don’t believe it. Let’s teach them the commands of God, be it through the reading of scripture or the gift of a bible. Let’s make disciples, be it through shepherding our own little children well or sharing the gospel with a stranger. Let’s remember that Christ is with us, and so let us emulate him and share with others the gift that’s been given to us. Be blessed and have a very merry Christmas!
