The Glory of Things Hidden - Dec. 9-13

At that time Jesus declared, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. - Matthew 11:25‭-‬26

Parables, parables, and more parables this week. Lucky for us Christians today, we get the inside scoop on the meanings of most of these parables as Jesus explained them to his disciples. Also lucky for us is that we have been given the Holy Spirit who reveals and teaches truth to us through the word. It's easy to be thankful for, and to see the glory of what God has revealed to us.

Here though we see Jesus not only praising our heavenly Father for what he has revealed, but also for what he has kept hidden. Jesus himself spoke in parables so that not everyone who heard him speak would understand what he was saying (Matt. 13:10-15). This is something that we can struggle to praise God for, it can be difficult to see the glory in things hidden.

But it really is glorious, it shows that it’s not about us or our own abilities. It shows His power and sovereignty in our saving knowledge and faith in the truth. The most educated, most wealthy, most influential person on the planet cannot truly know Jesus apart from God choosing to reveal him to that person. The fact that these things are hidden from many make them all the more amazing when they are revealed to one such as a child. So let’s join with Jesus in praising the Father for his wisdom of keeping some things unrevealed. Have a great week!
