Frequently Asked Questions

Bible Reading Challenge FAQs

How do we follow the reading plan?

Unfortunately we were not able to set up an app to go along with this reading plan, however we will have hard copies of the plan available at the welcome center at church, as well as online in PDF format to be viewed on your phone or printed off at home.

How do we get updates, and post our questions and comments about the reading?

Right here on the Calvary website you’ll find weekly updates and posts about the bible reading challenge. Links will be sent out in the weekly newsletter as well and you can share the links with your friends! Questions and comments about the reading can be put in the comment section of the weekly blog.

What translations would you recommend?

There are lots of good translations, ESV, CSB and NASB are some well regarded translations for accuracy as well as readability.

What’s the best way to read?

A hard copy of the bible is probably the best option. You can even buy a cheap paperback bible that you can mark up and highlight and throw in your bag to bring with you everywhere. Next best would be an e-reader, as they are quite convenient to bring with you and lack the distractions of other electronic devices. A phone or tablet works too, but are last on the list due to the distractions that inevitably popup while using them, if that’s the option that works best for you though, use it!

What if I fall behind in the weekly readings?

The readings are set up so that if this happens you have the weekends to catch up. If you still find that you are not able to catch up don’t worry about it, just jump back in at the current date. The goal is to be regularly in the Word and in community with the church doing it!

“If we lose motivation, we will not read the Bible. And if we don’t read the Bible, we miss everything God has for us through the word.” - John Piper

What if I’m feeling discouraged or not understanding what I’m reading?

Pray! God can encourage you and reveal His word to you through his spirit.

Don’t expect to fully understand or have revelation in every scripture you read, Christians that have read the bible hundreds of times are still getting new revelations; you’re not going to get it all in one read through. And you’re not supposed to!

Ask your brothers and sisters in Christ what they think and read with family and friends when able. Community groups, mens and womens ministries and gatherings are great places to connect about what you’ve been reading!

How can I make time for reading the Bible in my busy schedule?

Make it a priority because it should be, set aside a time every day that you can dedicate to do the reading. If you miss your time don’t give up, find another time during the day, we can almost always find 10-15 min somewhere during the day to read, (bathroom and coffee breaks work great) you can even use an app to listen to the bible read to you as you drive to work or do chores around the house.

“Read the Bible like you’re reading the news.” - Doug Wilson.

Don’t stress out over getting into word studies or commentaries. For your daily bread, just chew and swallow. You will read it again so remember that the most important step of understanding the Bible is to become a reader of it!
